£11250 for Tweendykes Special Needs School PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 August 2006

John Barnes 2005-2006 President of Holderness John Barnes identified Tweendykes Special Needs School, Sutton Road, Sutton in Hull as his preferred beneficiary.  The school has 83 physically and/or mentally handicapped students, 16 of them in wheelchairs, ranging in age from 4 to 16 years.  Holderness has been involved with the school, through Kids Out for some 14 years.

During the last Rotary year the club supported a wide range of events organised by all the Committees enable each to make a considerable contribution.  Tweendykes Hot Road, with the Dave Challis Band, held on 20th May, was a particularly successful evening.  The President’s wife, Jan, volunteered to sell her own special brand of Sherried Onions which proved very popular, making another valued donation.

On behalf of the club, successful requests for support were made to various donor charities. The excellent level of support given by all the members of Holderness during the year, taken together with the support of daughter Club, Humberside, and the contributions from charitable trusts, enabled a cheque for £11,250 to be presented to Berni Dobson, Headteacher, at Johns Valedictory meeting on 26th June 2006.

An excellent year’s work for a deserving cause.

As John is now a trustee, not only will the link between the Holderness Rotary Club and Tweendykes strengthen, the school will also benefit from his valuable experience and support in ensuring that the school and its pupils get maximum benefit out of this donation.  Brian Armstrong, RC of Humberside PRO
