DG Rolf Sperr now "Leads the Way" PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 05 July 2006

Trevor and RolphSaturday 1st July saw the District Handover from the outgoing DG Trevor Butterworth MBE (Woodhall Spa) to DG Rolf Sperr (Cleethorpes).  Over 120 members and partners representing many clubs throughout District 1270 enjoyed a 3-course dinner accompanied by a live 3-piece band at The Winter Gardens, Cleethorpes.  Inner Wheel was also well represented.

After the meal, retiring President Steve Hilldrith from the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes handed over the club president's chain of office to President David Smith and gave his wife Ann a bouquet of flowers.   He then thanked his team for a happy and successful year for the club before wishing David an enjoyable year in office.  David then introduced his team for 2006-2007.

The District Handover followed, starting with Sergeant at Arms, David Black (Alford & Mablethorpe) giving a farewell speech after 8 years in office, offering his best wishes to successor Graham Owen (Hallam).  DG Trevor gave his farewell speech, wishing Rolf a fun year and giving his wife Margaret a bouquet of flowers.  DG Rolf then introducted the District Officers for his year, handed over the jewels of office and gave a brief speech.

In spite of all the formalities, the evening was light-hearted and everyone enjoyed mixing with Rotarians and their partners from such a wide geographical area.   It was good to see that distance had proved to be no object for some.  There was more drinking and talking than dancing but the evening still finished quite late.  Some poor Rotarians had to be up at the crack of dawn to go to the District Disabled Games in Barnsley the next day, so a special thanks to them for still managing to support handover.
