The good weather has provided Rotary Club of Sheffield’s Music in the Gardens event in the city’s beautiful Botanical Gardens with record audiences over the four day July event. Over 7000 people turned up to enjoy live music amid the Victorian splendour of the gardens, contributing to a charity take that could reach £25,000 this year. The four charities represented, Shelterbox, Weston Park Charity care, Sheffield Carers Association and Shepherd’s Wheel restoration, each managed to collect the best part of £1000 in buckets on each evening from the good humoured crowd
This year, in order to manage the extra day, (The Friday) Rotarians from daughter clubs Hallam and Vulcan turned up in considerable numbers to help manage the event, ensuring that next year, the event can continue to grow certain of three club participation in the future. The atmosphere was superb, with good quality sound wafting over thousands of conversations, as pensioners sit alongside students and babies, and everyone is smiling. The busiest night was the Friday swing night, where around 2300 attended. With both the jazz and the swing evenings as darkness fell around 10:00 pm, revellers ended their evening dancing in front of the band. |
