Black Dyke Brass BandThe Rotary Club of Humberside has raised more than £6,000 for three local charities with a concert held at Beverley Minster on Saturday May 9th.  The concert by the Black Dyke Band - currently the champion band in Britain - was a sell out with more than 800 people in the Minster.

Charities that will benefit from the profits will be the Dove House Hospice, the Daisy Appeal at the new unit for cancer patients at the Castle Hill Hospital and Jacobs Well in Beverley.

Ross Allenby, chairman of the Club's Major Events Committee said the concert had been a tremendous success. It was the first time the Club had attempted a venture on this scale and the first time Black Dyke had played in the Minster.

Ross said: "We had no idea how the poublic would respond but every ticket was sold and there was even a waiting list in case of cancellations.

"Not only did we get such solid backing from the public but a considerable amount was donated by local firms in the form of sponsorship.  This was extremely encouraging bearing in mind the current economic situation".

When the concert was over it was announced that the Band had been booked for a return to the Minster in two years time - on Saturday 14 May 2011.
