Bill HeathMarch 25th was the occasion of the 19th Annual Charity Golf Day organised by the Rotary Clubs of Woodhall Spa and Spilsby.

This annual event began in 1990 organised by John Bevan of Goulceby who at the time was a member of the Rotary Club of Spilsby. John ran the event until 2008 raising close to £60,000 for local and Rotary charities.

John is now Vice Captain of Woodhall Spa Golf Club so the Rotary clubs of Woodhall Spa and Spilsby decided to combine their efforts to keep this competition going and enhance its prestige with a magnificent trophy to be called "The John Bevan Cup".

On the day 144 players did battle at Woodhall Spa Golf Club on the world renowned Hotchkin Course. Players came from great golf clubs such as Walton Heath, Brocket Hall and Woburn in the South to Formby, Lindrick and Ganton in the North but the majority of players came from more local courses in Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and of course Lincolnshire. Karsten Ping, the American golf club manufacturers sponsored the event with a putter demonstration on the putting green and donated a brand new Ping putter to the raffle.

The event was an open Stableford and the John Bevan Cup was won for the first time by Bill Heath with 34 points.

2nd was R Irwin of Kenwick Park Golf Club, Louth, Lincolnshire

3rd was R Law of Woodhall Spa Golf Club, Lincolnshire

Nearest the pin was won by G Cook of Slaley Hall Golf Club, Durham.

Longest drive was won by P Kipling of Holme Hall Golf Club, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

Over £2000 was raised for charity.
