Hull Paragon: Musical Instruments required PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 21 April 2006

Hull Paragon's Musical Instrument CollectionTalented musical children at Wansbeck Primary urgently need instruments on which to practice – ANY INSTRUMENT.  So Hull Paragon Rotary Club went to the central atrium of Princes Quay one Saturday to receive any musical instruments that members of the public were able to donate - recorders, clarinet, piano to name but a few were collected. And four weeks later the instruments are still coming in but more are needed!

Music is fundamentally important to the pupils of Wansbeck Primary School not least because the school has special support from the Duchess of Kent.  In fact, Future Talent is a charity that was set up by the Duchess as a direct result of her personal commitment to the school.  The Charity believes “that music should be given a greater priority in schools across the UK … that all children can achieve in music and the most able can excel”

But it is not just about learning to play an instrument – it is about positive inter-personal skills such self-confidence, self-awareness, discipline.  Teachers of Wansbeck Primary School have seen a definite improvement in the morale and behaviour of their pupils since music has been seriously integrated into the weekly curriculum for all pupils.  The demand from the pupils wanting to learn to play a musical instrument has far exceeded resources.

President of Hull Paragon Rotary Club, Mike Holdstock urges you to help these children by donating any instrument that is lying discarded in the garage, loft or spare room. It does not matter if they are out of tune or need a good clean, or how big they are as there are many willing volunteers to sort them out.
