Rotary environmental award: presentation to the runners–up. PDF Print E-mail

Hard at workWhat happens on a cold winter’s morning in Market Rasen? Whilst the rest of the country was either complaining about, or enjoying, the snow, a group of volunteers from the New Life Church of Market Rasen, led by Rhona Sheppard, had joined forces with the railway station support group, led by John Skelton, and were busily planting daffodil bulbs and apple trees, donated by the Rotary Club, on the land at the side of the station approach.

The New Life Church were runners up in the recent Rotary Environmental Award Competition, and Andrew Dalrymple, President of Rotary presented a cheque for £300.00 to James Burdett of the church youth group. They will use the money for further enhancement of the Market Rasen area, involving particularly the youth section and the Xstream section of the Church. Matilda Troughton, shown in the The Teampicture, is a member of the Xstream team.

The land had been pre-prepared by Rotarian Trevor Lyle, to make the work a little easier. Rotarian Harold Bates, chairman of the Rotary Environmental committee, was very pleased to see the enthusiasm, with which the work was being carried out, to further enhance the appearance of part of the town, for the benefit of all.
