At 8:15 on Sunday morning I arrived at Cottingham Parks golf and leisure club to join other members of the Rotary Clubs of Hull Paragon, Hull and Beverley who were engaged in our latest sponsored Swimathon to raise money for Shelterboxes.
Some had been there since 7 (I had heard once that there are two in a day) to allow time to rack up their 70 lengths or even more but I felt my somewhat looser target of 20 still sufficient given that I hadn’t been in a pool since our last event.
Duty done it was time to drag ourselves upstairs to the bar and undo all the good work with a full English breakfast and a chat over the morning papers.
The five Hull Paragon members and 8-year-old son raised over £300 which with the additional money from the buckets placed in reception and the tees will see us well on the way to providing a much-needed Shelterbox.
One member of the public commented that if she’d known about it she’d have got some sponsorship for the lengths she was doing anyway – something to consider for the next event.
