On Saturday 14th February, four young Chefs from Cleethorpes, Doncaster Grimsby and Mexborough prepared a meal in the kitchen of Hill House School near Robin Hood Airport in their bid to become District 1270’s Young Chef of 2009.
Being Valentines day there was a general theme running through all the menus with chocolate and strawberries appearing somewhere in all four meals. Emily Robinson from Cleethorpes prepared Mackerel Baskets, Lamb Escalopes and Chocolate Cherry Brownies whilst Doncaster Young Chef, Julie Ann Laguio presented Artichoke Pots, Chicken & Mushroom Medley and Queen of Hearts Pudding. Grimsby Young Chef, Oliver Woods prepared Buffalo Mozzarella and Chilli Crostini topped with Basil, followed by Roasted Sea Bass with Chorizo Red Onion Cherry Tomatoes and Garlic served with Asparagus and finished with Hot Chocolate Fondant served with Whipped Cream and Strawberry Coulis. Charlotte Oliver from Mexborough served Avocado, Prawn and Fennel Cocktails, Chicken with Roasted Vegetable Couscous and Strawberry Cheesecake. Each Chef had to provide receipts, cooking plans and set a table on which to serve their meals. There were 5 judges including David Holland, Principle of Hill House School; Head of Judging Panel – Jill Parks and Jane Fishwick, both from Doncaster College and Rotarians Bob Field and Margaret Taylor. Winner was Emily Robinson with Oliver Woods as Runner Up. Both will go through to the Regional Finals which District 1270 are hosting at Hill House School on Saturday 7 March.
