This project  “The East Hull Rotary Lads and Girls Club” has the support of all 8 Hull and East Riding Rotary Clubs.

The proposal is to develop a non-threatening, informal youth facility within an area of the east stand at Craven Park donated by Hull Kingston Rovers RLFC.

Works will include floor screeding, wall moving and erecting, electrical and mechanical installations as well as final fit out and equipment.

The Hull KR Education and Sports Trust, a registered charity with a proven track record of working with young people, would undertake the day-to-day operation of the facility.   To date the Charity has engaged with a total of £24,000 young people providing a variety of activities in a much smaller facility.

The membership of the Board will always include a Rotarian from District 1270.

The Trust will continue to work with all relevant partners and specialised agencies experienced in working with children and young people such as Preston Road New Deal for Communities, Humberside Police, Hull City Council Youth Development Service, Grassroots and Sure Start.

The Club will provide an informal, fun, enthusiastic environment in which to engage with young people and their families; especially those from dysfunctional families or deprived areas of the city many of whom are still suffering psychological issues as a result of the floods.  Some have still not returned to their homes.

The activities provided will be from sport to ICT, construction to sexual awareness as well as basic life skills such as cooking and career advice.  Through these activities young people and their families will be able to develop confidence to tackle some of the prominent socio-economic issues that directly affect them and their future ie: improving educational attainment and skills levels thereby improving employment opportunities and increasing emotional well being as a means of reducing crime/harm.

There will be plenty of opportunities for all 8 Rotary Clubs to build a sustainable relationship with the Trust.  Early discussions indicate that individuals will undertake mentoring or delivery of some of the activities including the development of an Interact Club that will be linked to the University of Hull Rotaract Club.

Finally, there is an alignment of Hull KR Education and Sport Trust and Rotary “brand values” as we both make a positive difference to the lives of those we seek to help.   It is the very heart and soul of what Rotary is about.
