Brigg Rotarians holding the Ryder CupSeveral keen golfing Rotarians within The Rotary Club of Brigg came close to holding The Ryder Cup on 30 March 2006. The Ryder Cup was on display at Brigg Rotary Club when Chief Executive of the PGA, Sandy Jones came along with David Edwards, Golf Professional at Forest Pines, to talk about the trophy.

The golfing members of Brigg Rotary Club were keen to get their hands on the solid gold cup - undoubtedly the nearest they will ever get to owning such a prestigious prize...

The first official competition was won by America in Worcester, Massachusetts but the second in 1929 was won by Britain in Moortown, Leeds.

The competition has swung backwards and forwards over the years and was last won by Europe in 2004 when Scotsman Colin Montgomerie sank the winning putt; the next outing will be at The K Club in Straffan, Ireland, later on in 2006.
