Rotherham Past President Dr. Hamid Husain O.B.E. (a Paul Harris Fellow) will be representing the Rotary movement at a fundraising event to be held next month in Sheffield in aid of the Lost Chord charity.

Along with the Rt. Hon. David Blunkett M.P. and the Master Cutler Gordon Bridge, Rotarian Hamid has volunteered to be ‘arrested’ on 13th September by the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire, taken to the Sheffield Crown Court, and ‘tried and sentenced’ by the Hon. Justice Murphy.

The prisoners will only be released on the payment of a bail which will go to help the charity.

Founded in 1999 by Helena Muller, who is now the High Sheriff Designate of South Yorkshire, the charity has expanded rapidly to many parts of Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. The world famous soprano Lesley Garrett is now its National Patron. It provides interactive musical sessions designed to stimulate responses from dementia sufferers through the media of music, song and dance.

Whatever the temptation may be to keep the prisoners ‘in’, please donate to release them and thus help a very worthwhile cause. The incidence of dementia is increasing very significantly and there is a tremendous need to do all we can to help, not only in the relevant research, but also to make the lives of dementia sufferers more tolerable and to enhance their quality of life by whatever means.

Please make your cheques payable to ‘Lost Chord’ and forward them to Joe Gowland, President of the Rotary Club of Rotherham.
