In March, as a continuing celebration of the centennial of Rotary, five Beverley Rotarians and their partners will be flying to Albi near Toulouse in the South of France to plant two trees at the entrance to a newly created park in the town. Albi was chosen as The Rotary Club of Albi is the mother club of our twin club in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania.
We originally planned to plant a single tree during the centenary year but this could not take place as the area around Albi had been devastated by forest fires. However as a result the planting will now take on even more significance and meaning, becoming a symbol of regeneration and re-growth as well as international cooperation and friendship.
The original idea for a small ceremony has also grown as the Mayor of Albi became aware of the plans and has become involved. There will now be a formal ceremony followed by a civic reception taking place on 17th March. We hope to have some photographs of the event posted on our club website soon afterwards.
