GSE Colombia with hostsThe Colombian GSE team visit to District 1270 brought them to Hull on Thursday 1st May.  Among the many visits they took whilst staying with their hosts from the Rotary Clubs of Hull, Humberside and Hull Kingston was a morning at The Deep.

The team along with their hosts arrived at 10.30am for an hour and half amongst the aquaria and interactives that tell the story of the oceans.  The team leader Alonso said that he enjoyed it more than Seaworld. "Jumping in the pool"

During their visit they were fortunate enough to see divers in the North Sea tank feeding the Bullhuss by hand and cleaning the tanks.  Their visit also coincided with a showing of the 4-d shark show which they very much enjoyed.

They particularly had fun on the interactive mat in the Discovery Corner, near the main lagoon tank where as you can see from the picture they joined a party of local school children in jumping on the mat to see how the fish swam away.

After a sandwich lunch sat overlooking the confluence of the rivers Hull and Humber, the team went off for their vocational visits.  Carolina went to the BBC where she reported that she had spent a very informative and enjoyable afternoon at the Queens Gardens studios whilst two of the team went to Castle Hill and the fourth member of the team went to HRI Accident and Emergency department.

The day ended with a visit to the Rotary Club of Hull Paragon where the team gave an informative presentation about themselves, their families and their countries.  Many of those present were extremely surprised as to how green the country especially Cucuta which has a lot of trees everywhere.  Their english was excellent and they fielded all the questions including the one about drugs extremely well.

They thanked everyone for their kindness and told of how when they said they were coming to England, their Columbian friends and family told them they would not have a good time as the English were so unfriendly.  They re-assured everyone that they would be going home to tell them how wrong they were.
