Despite the inclement weather almost 200 people signed up and furthermore arrived to participate in the Sport Relief Mile, the second event of its kind to be held locally and organised by the Isle of Axholme Rotary Club in conjunction with South Axholme Community Arts College.
People of all ages and abilities sprinted, ran, walked or slept in their buggies around the course marked out by Scott Barlow (head of PE at the College) which gave participants a choice of distances of 1, 3 or 6 miles. Local MP Ian Cawsey kindly rang the bell to start proceedings, and then gamely ran the course accompanied by his daughter. Entrance fess, sponsorship and donations to the fund allowed us to send in excess of £1000 to Sport Relief from this one event. Photographic evidence (to be provided shortly) from the event confirms that: - Our president needs help finding the big hand on his Mickey Past presidents look very handsome in masks (or just need the extra
oxygen !) The organisers wondered why they had to stand around having photographs taken - Our secretary is not averse to tripping up competitors so that she can be first over the line!!!Mouse watch
 - Our President elect CAN run a mile (if there’s a cheque at the end of it)
- Some of our members look most fetching in their day-glo jackets and woolly hats
