The Rotary Club of Hull is pleased to confirm that the 2008 Humber Half Marathon and Family Fun Run on Sunday 29 June will be in aid of the Marie Curie Nursing Service charity in Hull, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Cheryl Barrett – Community Fundraising Manager of Marie Curie Cancer Care in North & East Yorkshire said " I am simply delighted that the Rotary Club of Hull have chosen to support the local Marie Curie Nursing Service with next year’s Humber Half Marathon; this means such a great deal to us. In 2008, we celebrate 60 years of caring for cancer patients and hope that local folk will get behind the run to rejoice with us during our diamond anniversary, making it the best Humber Half-Marathon ever. Every night can be a marathon for cancer patients and their families – your support will enable more local folk who are terminally ill with cancer to be cared for by Marie Curie Nurses in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home."
It is hoped that over 2000 runners will register for the 2008 Humber Bridge Half Marathon and over 600 for the Family Fun Run, which will take place on Sunday, June 29 2008. The Rotary Club of Hull, which organises the event each year,(ably assisted by the Rotary Club of Barton on Humber), expects record numbers and publicity for this year’s event as it takes place in the Marie Curie Nursing Service’s Diamond Anniversary Year. By making Marie Curie Cancer Care the nominated charity for the Humber Half Marathon the Rotary Club of Hull and hundreds of local people will be supporting a charity in its milestone 60th Jubilee anniversary year of providing palliative, end of life care to patients and much needed support for their loved ones. The money raised will be kept in the local area of most of the participants, meaning that they are really raising money to help their local community. The event will benefit from Marie Curie Cancer Care strong association with running and provide PR support at a local and national level. The participants will really feel part of the Daffodil Team, with pre-race support from their Community Fundraising Team and a strong Marie Curie Cancer Care presence on the day with cheering stations and a friendly marquee provided much appreciated refreshments and recuperation. Sponsored by many local businesses and in it’s ninth year, the race is now a major event in the local running calendar and is expected to raise a record sum for the local Marie Curie Nursing Service. At this early stage, substantial opportunities exist for companies and organizations to gain effective publicity by agreeing to become sponsors for the event. Companies and organizations who are interested in discussing these exciting opportunities should contact Rotarian Jackie Richardson |
