RIBI President Allan Jagger attended the District 1270 Conference over the weekend of 21st September and was presented with an inscribed top hat that he will use to swell the funds of the Bill Huntley Endowment on his travels during his Presidential year.
Bill was a member of the Rotary Club of Alford and Mablethorpe and died suddenly in February 2006; he became only the fourth Rotarian from these shores to achieve the Presidency of Rotary International in 1994/1995. Considered one of the finest Rotarians to hold this post Bill started a "Pooled Fund" during his year as RI President in hopes of gathering sufficient funds to provide a scholarship in his name. Rotarians of the Alford & Mablethorpe club launched an appeal earlier this year to complete Bill’s fund and the proceeds will eventually be used to provide "Bill Huntley World Peace Scholarships", ring-fenced for applicants from within the RIBI area. Rtn David Black, Chair of the Endowment Working Group said "Bill was a man of towering commitment and compassion, he started this fund with donations from his own modest means and we owe it to his memory and to the furtherance of World Peace Scholarships to complete his work" Will YOU help the Bill Huntley Endowment? Since the fund was launched in February this year around $24,000 has been raised, the market value of the fund now stands at over $157,000 and the fund will pay out over $6,000 this year (for the very first time) in support of the operational expenses of World Peace Scholars. Just imagine! If we could persuade 50,000 Rotarians within RIBI to "Pay a Pound for Peace" this could raise around $100,000 and the Bill Huntley Endowment would soon be ready to sponsor its first Great Britain and Ireland Huntley Peace Fellow.
