Allan and DavidThanks to everyone who has supported this momentous and ground breaking appeal, over 50% of clubs in District 1270 and many throughout the country have now "Passed the Hat", if your club hasn’t then get passing and help 1270 to make a clean sweep. This invitation to "Pass the Hat for Huntley, Pay a Pound for Peace" is also extended to Rotarians and friends throughout the world.

Our first target was $250,000, when we launched the appeal the fund stood at around $114,000, in March 2007 the financial value was $157,000 and we have a realistic chance of reaching $200,000 by the end of this Rotary year.

When RIBI President Allan Jagger attended the District 1270 Conference he was presented with an inscribed top hat that he will use to swell the funds of the Bill Huntley Endowment on his travels during his Presidential year. Thanks to Allan’s efforts donations are now rolling in from Rotary clubs and events the length and breadth of Britain and Ireland – from as far apart as Worcester Severn and Helensburgh.

If you’re not up to date with what’s going on then let’s remind you - Bill was a member of the Rotary Club of Alford and Mablethorpe and died suddenly in February 2006; In 1994/1995 he became only the fourth Rotarian from these shores to achieve the Presidency of Rotary International. Considered one of the finest Rotarians to hold this post Bill started a "Pooled Fund" during his year as RI President in hopes of gathering sufficient funds to provide a scholarship in his name and commenced with a personal donation from his own modest means.

Rotarians of the Alford & Mablethorpe club launched an appeal earlier this year to complete Bill’s fund and the proceeds will eventually be used to provide "Bill Huntley World Peace Scholarships", ring-fenced Audreyfor applicants from within the RIBI area.

Bill was a son of the city of Hull and in another accolade to him District 1270 has dedicated the Rotary sponsored all-terrain vehicle that has now successfully taken part in the Hull Freedom Trail "In Memory of Bill Huntley". All the vehicles have now been delivered to Sierra Leone and the team are safely back in the UK.

Audrey Huntley paid a visit to the vehicle when it was displayed at the Alford & Mablethorpe Club meeting.

PLEASE HELP US TO COMPLETE BILL’S DREAM AND MAKE "HUNTLEY WORLD PEACE FELLOWS" A REALITY
