In these hectic final hours before we depart on this epic trek I would like to say how proud I am to be a member of RI D1270. When you took on support of the Hull Freedom Trail project to carry humanitarian aid and donate the vehicles to charities in Sierra Leone and raise the profile of Rotary and draw attention to human trafficking I did not realise just how much it would involve clubs and individuals throughout the district. It has been truly amazing. We are going from one of the richest countries in the world to the poorest. I am encouraged and humbled by the support of friends, family and my own club who are turning out in numbers for the send-off on Thursday together with my born-again motorcycle pals who will escort us to the ferry. Look out for Claudio Von Planta riding pillion with his camera as we leave. There will inevitably be tedious, trying and tough times ahead but we are proud of what Rotary has achieved here by being the only organisation to fully fund one of the trucks. We do this in the spirit of Rotary, for Rotary and because we are passionate about a better world. Thank you for allowing me to be part of it. Think of us, for we will surely be thinking of you.See you before Christmas. Bas Lead (Rotary) DriverHFT PROJECT supported by D1270 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL. If you think you are too small to make a difference – try telling that to the mosquito in your bedroom at night.
