"There is no "I" in TEAM" I’m never a fan of clichés but I made an exception to that one! The Rotary team for the Hull Freedom Trail group that is, myself, Isobel and Bas, proved that "Together Each Achieves More" during our HFT training weekend. Okay… enough with the motivational cliché and mnemonic…I think I speak for the whole group when I say we had a smashing time last weekend spending time with one another, completing all the challenges and winning at the end. The three of us plus another non-Rotarian member, set out Friday night with the rest of the HFT group, not having any idea what the weekend would bring but with Bas’s leadership skills, Isobel’s exceptional navigating skills…and my, well, driving style (which my driving instructor would not be pleased about), came and conquered…with STYLE!
As ever, the weather made things a tad difficult Friday night…pitching up a tent in the rain on an empty stomach is not how I usually summarize my working week but we managed – thanks to Bas’s special brew (no…it’s not Carlsberg). Saturday presented us with a sunny day full of challenges which we completed exceptionally…we did everything we had to do way ahead of the other teams and even managed to stop by a couple of pubs along the way. At the end, we were declared winners, not to everybody’s surprise (and if there was a prize for the most "fun" group, we would have gotten it as well). Isobel received a much deserved award for her map reading and "sat naving" (if there is such a word) skills…without her, we would have only been a runner up! Sunday gave us Freya Cross (thanks for the moral support) and more time to gel with each other. The day ended with a bang (full of fish and chips)! All in all, the weekend for us as a team was a success; we worked together to a common goal and showed that Rotarians generate exceptional results whilst having FUN. More importantly, I think we have also shown that Rotary is a force to be reckoned with. Well done team! |
