Flood victims will get their washing done for free thanks to the help of a community support group.

Bailgate Rotary Club will collect washing from village residents whose washing machines or tumble dryers broke down in the floods.

They will take it to the Fresh As A Daisy launderette, in Birchwood, Lincoln, which has offered the club a discount price and will open 24 hours a day to deal with demand.

The villages to be supported are Langworth, Scothern, Dunholme and Nettleham. Club chairman Terence O'Halloran, said: "Residents we spoke to said one of the biggest problems was being unable to do their washing. We have money in the kitty so thought this was a way in which we could be of immediate help."

Members have also been out "tin rattling" at the local supermarket and have already raised £700 towards the Flood Disaster Fund and the club plans to hold a concert later in the year to raise funds to help with the long-term effects of flooding.
