Information

Following the recent floods in the north of England, the City of Hull and surrounding areas have been particularly badly hit. About 10,000 homes in the city have been flooded and it will take many months for the damage to be repaired. An estimated 30,000 people have been affected. Many household items in the ground floor of the flooded homes have been destroyed. There is also a real problem with uninsured loss in some areas.

The Plan

The Rotary Club of Hull has liaised with Hull City Council and, the following plan has been agreed.

Household goods can be donated and will be distributed via the City Council to those identified as requiring them.

The principal need is for cookers – gas or electric stand alone (not hobs and ovens). There is also a need for fridges, freezers, cookers, microwaves, washing machines, tumble driers, kettles and also for lounge furniture. All soft furnishings must be fire retardant and bear the appropriate label. Electrical goods will be tested by Hull City Council before distribution.

There are two funds that have been set up. The first is by the City Council. Donations of money to this account can be handed in at any branch of the Nat West Bank for: Hull Flood FundSort Code 56-00-06a/c no. 21687633

The second is a Rotary fund, co-ordinated by Rotary District 1270. For further details please contact treasurer at Rotary1270 or PR at Rotary1270

Rotary Clubs wishing to make donations of goods are requested to collect appropriate items and arrange transport to Hull. Distribution has been organised via Hull City Council. Anyone wishing to donate items should either call Business in the Community on (01482) 638 610 or items can be taken to Real Aid, Unit 6b, Beverley Business Park, Old Beck Road, Beverley HU17 0JW.
