The second day was as successful as the first.
The Two Trailblazers that joined the Comms Team were Kayla and Nick - both of whom settled in with the team quickly asking questions about what was expected of them and trying to learn about Rotary projects in case they were asked any questions about them. Geoff Peterson when he joined the team can be seen demonstrating the lifestraw. The Hull Freedom Trail Vehicle continued to draw visitors to the stand and in the second picture you can see the young Trailblazers explaining all about the vehicle and the exhibition to their own p eer group. Once again the team were joined by several Rotarians from 1270 to help with stand management - in fact Market Rasen are to be congratulated for their support, with several members coming on each day. There is no doubt that having the young Trail Blazers on the stand went some of the way to changing the perceptions of Rotary to some of the visitors to stand. They were also very informative to all those 1270 Rotarians who visited the stand. Several learnt a lot more about the Hull Freedom Trail just by listening to what they had to say.
Press interest was maintained - the Lincolnshire Echo photographer appeared to take photos of the expedition team and then the three of them were interviewed by BBC Radio Lincolnshire. As well as serious questions about the Hull Freedom Trail and why Rotary 1270 was involved, the young Trail Blazers were asked about how they would cope living "rough" without hair gel and eye liner!
The second day proved the "girls" chance to escape and enjoy the benefits of creating a stronger relationship with the media - the chocolate foundation was found on the Business Link/Lincolnshire Today stand as was a live band and wine. Another feature during both days was Isobel training the Young Trail Blazers on
interviewing techniques. It certainly helped Kayla and Ian and much to their surprise they were asked by the BBC interviewer some of the same questions that Isobel had put to them. By the end of the second day another 3 potential Rotarians had made enquiries, two more potential sponsors had been identified and there was no doubt that the profile of Rotary 1270 had definitely been raised. Despite the bad weather forecast, the rain held off until 5pm and then it rained so much that the stand became waterlogged. Needless to say the last hour on the stand was a franctic one trying to get everything off the ground and undercover all at the same time. It did not however, dampen the spirit and the last photo of the day was the team enjoying bottle of champagne in celebration of good fellowship and the achievements of the past two days. Another addition to the stand was a visitors book with a comments column - these together with a full list of the outcomes of attending the Lincolnshire Show will be posted under the Comms Committe registered section on the website. |
