Laura Bryars, a former pupil of the Stagecoach Theatre School in Doncaster, has been invited to join the prestigious Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Laura (15) fought off competition from 800 youngsters from across the country to gain one of just 16 places on the Yorkshire Young Dancers advanced training scheme at the Leeds-based school. Laura was awarded a bursary by the Rotary Club of Doncaster St Leger in 2004 to attend Stagecoach. The bursary is now in its third year and the St Leger Club in partnership with Stagecoach have awarded 3 bursaries for the new academic year. Laura believes her successful audition with the Northern School was down to the confidence and performance ability gained in her two years bursary at Stagecoach which she describes as "a chance in a lifetime".
Kim Dye, Principal of Stagecoach Doncaster said that "Laura was a joy to have at Stagecoach where she was a model student. Her positive attitude and hard work added to her natural talent in the arts have certainly contributed to her success in gaining the coveted place at the school". Minister for Public Health, Caroline Flint, is Laura’s local MP (and a keen dancer) and took time off from a scheduled visit to Edlington Comprehensive where Laura is a pupil to join Kim Dye in congratulating Laura on her success – see picture with Caroline on the right. Northern School is a unique dance training institution offering a select group of students the opportunity to develop and excel as dance artists in a conservatoire environment – it provides world-class dance training. |
