Rotarians from Hull Paragon, South Cave & Wolds, Humberside and Barton were some of the 200 volunteers who helped in the running of the Humber Night Challenge - one of the many activities of the Tribune Trust.

250 youngsters aged between 14 and 19 took part from all over the area covered by the old "Humberside" areas.   They came from schools, out of school youth organisations as well as the various cadet units.

Each team consisted of 5 members who undertook challenges at 10 locations in private woodland in North Lincolnshire.

Each checkpoint was manned by volunteers from a variety of organisations such as Rotary, St Johns Ambulance and Explorers (Scouting).  Activities included first aid, physical tests as well as mental challenges.  In these pictures the team have an A4 piece of paper which they have to make into a complete circle big enough for each member to walk through.

Volunteers arrived at the appointed HQ where they signed in and went to their various posts where they remained until the 5.30am when the last team had left the woods.

This highly organised activity was re-instigated by a member of RC of South Cave & Wolds.  It was a tremendous success for all who took part - both the volunteers and teams, despite the inclement weather - it poured from about 1am and many teams were very bedraggled when they arrived at the various checkpoints.  There was not doubt that the paper exercise was not at all easy when the paper was wet!

But the teams remained positive and did their very best to succeed.

Undoubtedly, the aims of the event were well met by all - "To encourage young people to work together as a team, attempting tasks requiring different skills in difficult and unusual circumstances"

In addition to The High Sheriffs' & Humberside Police Tribune Trust, this event was sponsored by The Princes Trust and Yorkshire Forward.  If you would like to know more about The Tribune Trust and the opportunities it brings to youngsters on either side of the Humber please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
