April 22 is London Marathon day and one of our district presidents, Denys Fell of Hornsea Rotary, has entered the race. The reason? He got the bug after running the Humber Bridge half marathon (organised by Hull Rotary) last year. "I was challenged to run it," explained Denys, "by Dr John Gosnold of Hull Rotary when he visited our club. Yes it was tough, but I didn't realise how enjoyable it would be. My thoughts then naturally turned to having a go at the big one - London!"
Denys is running for Shaw Trust which helps disadvantaged and disabled people find employment.
He said: "I was attracted to this charity because I had been approached by several individuals towards the end of 2006 about dedicating part of my farm to creating training and employment for the disadvantaged. This 'Green Project' as it is now called, is starting to find its wings." Denys has spoken with district governor Rolf Sperr and there is a possibility that Rotary Foundation may play a part. If you want to support Denys, please visit his light-hearted web page www.justgiving.com/denysfell |
