A special presentation took place at the District Council meeting on Thursday, 23 November. Andy Lindsey of the RC of Beverley, who has the full support and endorsement of the Comms Committee, as well as unanimous support of his own club, gave the presentation following which Council voted overwhelmingly to support the project.

As many of you will be aware, delegates at the 2006 District Conference in Scarborough were informed that, as the hub of the Wilberforce Celebrations was in this district, they provided an ideal platform for giving service in a high profile environment. In fact, several clubs have specific projects underway and details are on the District website.

The purpose of the presentation was to show that District 1270 can "Lead The Way" by becoming involved in an exciting dynamic humanitarian project and District Council gave their full  and entusiastic support.

The Hull Freedom Trail will involve five 4 x 4 vehicles being driven 4,500 miles from Hull to its twin town, Freetown, in Sierra Leone. Drivers will be selected according to their specific skills and will be accompanied by children from one of Hull’s most deprived estates. The trail will be the subject of a TV documentary for which high profile media personnel are freely giving their time and expertise.
