District 1270 is one of 29 Rotary Districts in Great Britain and Ireland. There are 49 clubs in the District covering parts of the counties of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The District boundary stretches from Hornsea on the East Yorkshire coast (our northern-most club) down the east coast via Hull (the District’s major port) to Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast (our southern-most club); then north-west from Skegness via Lincoln (our largest Rotary Club) to Sheffield (our biggest city) and then north-east via Selby (our smallest Rotary Club) back to Hornsea. The 2 largest cities in the District are Sheffield and Hull and we have several cities and towns of major historical importance such as Beverley, Lincoln and Selby. The District is home to 3 major universities in Sheffield, Lincoln and Hull. Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, sits on the main railway line from London to Edinburgh and is only 1 hour and 40 minutes from London. The District is divided by the Humber Estuary, spanned by the Humber Bridge, which was the longest suspension bridge in the world for several years after it was built.
