Our District Governor for 2006-07 is Rolf Sperr of the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes, and his message to Rotarians in the District is printed below:-

“For all of us the year ahead will be a time of tremendous opportunity and tremendous responsibility.  Sooner than you expect, you will be looking back and asking yourself ‘Have I done all that I could; have I led the way to a better future in Rotary, my community, my life.’

The programmes chosen by RI President Bill Boyd (Literacy; Water Management;  Health & Hunger; and the Family of Rotary) are vast subjects — it would be easy to say they are too big for us to tackle —the statistics are frightening — 12 million adults in Britain have a reading age below 12 years and 5 million adults are unable to read labels and instructions.  Too many for us — or is it?  By breaking the numbers down, by concentrating on those people in our community the problem does not look so huge.

By Leading the Way in your own area many positive things can be done.  Be adventurous — think what you can achieve if you team up with another Rotary Club — organise a matching grant — with another club in another country and hey presto another success. Rotary is about showing the world a better way.

In order to do this we need more Rotarians leading the way. Show your community what Rotary does, encourage new members — be enthusiastic — it’s catching.

Together we can do so much more.  And don’t forget — it’s good to talk”.
