Choral Tribute to John Harrison PDF Print E-mail

A choral tribute to John Harrison in aid of Breast Cancer Screening Following an inspirational talk by Christina McGilligan-Fell about local hero John Harrison of Barrow, the RC Grimsby St James are urging fellow Rotarians to support a candlelit evening production narrating the story of John (Longitude) Harrison, under the direction of James Colclough, with vocals by the soprano Susan Everatt. The date is Friday 3 November and all proceeds raised will be for the Breast Cancer Screening Fund. (Charity No. 1052035) The choir of St James’ School under the direction of Anthony Pinel master of the choristers at Grimsby Parish Church will sing shanties and, provide musical accompaniments throughout the evening. It will be a spectacular and unique evening with special guests present who will mingle with the invited guests including our patron, Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale, 14th Astronomer Royal, William J.H. Andrewes, editor of the ‘Quest for Longitude’ and, co- author with Dava Sobel  of ‘ The Illustrated Longitude’ and renowned Harrison scholar, Andrew King.  The exhibition used for the Harrison memorial ceremony in Westminster Abbey on 24th March 2006 will be on display together with various props from the Bafta award winning film, ‘Longitude,’ including the copies of the famous clocks; this together with various literature stating the life and world of John Harrison. A booking form can be located under the clubs section of the downloads page of this website.
