Children at St Andrews Primary School in Kirk Ella have got a boost to ensure their school gardens produce a healthy crop of vegetables this year.
Members of the Rotary Club of Humberside have delivered three tons of farmyard manure and spread it over the school's three garden plots. For some time now the school has encouraged the youngsters to develop an interest in the gardens. A few months ago the Rotary Club arranged for some stone slabs to be delivered to the school to pave the paths between the plots. |

Sam Green, who attends Trent Valley Academy, Gainsborough was a double winner in the junior wheelchair events at the District 1270 Disability Games. But because he was unable to receive the trophies for the junior slalom on the day, Rotary District Governor Elect, Peter Manton, decided to make amends and visit his School to present him with the trophy in front of his school colleagues and friends.
Sam won his events against fierce competition at a full day of indoor games organised by Rotary District 1270 which takes in a huge area from Barnsley up to Hornsea down to Skegness and back to Lincoln. |

The Rotary Club of Humberside has raised more than £6,000 for three local charities with a concert held at Beverley Minster on Saturday May 9th. The concert by the Black Dyke Band - currently the champion band in Britain - was a sell out with more than 800 people in the Minster. Charities that will benefit from the profits will be the Dove House Hospice, the Daisy Appeal at the new unit for cancer patients at the Castle Hill Hospital and Jacobs Well in Beverley.
Ross Allenby, chairman of the Club's Major Events Committee said the concert had been a tremendous success. It was the first time the Club had attempted a venture on this scale and the first time Black Dyke had played in the Minster. |
