Media Interest in the Hull Freedom Trail |
Friday, 22 June 2007 |
There is absolutely no doubt that Rotary 1270's support of the Hull Freedom Trail would attract the interest of the Lincolnshire media especially when one of the drivers was from the Rotary Club of Lincoln.
A Press Release circulated to radio, television, monthly and daily print together with advance telephone calls achieved the desired effect. This was then re-inforced with visits to the media stands. On Wednesday, Lincolnshire Echo reporter, Anna Temple interviewed Bas and Mike James (the expedition driver with responsibility for route planning and vehicles) about the rationale for the expedition, the challenges ahead and why Rotary District 1270 is sponsoring one of the five vehicles. Day 2 at the 2007 Lincolnshire Show |
Friday, 22 June 2007 |
The second day was as successful as the first.
The Two Trailblazers that joined the Comms Team were Kayla and Nick - both of whom settled in with the team quickly asking questions about what was expected of them and trying to learn about Rotary projects in case they were asked any questions about them. Geoff Peterson when he joined the team can be seen demonstrating the lifestraw. The Hull Freedom Trail Vehicle continued to draw visitors to the stand and in the second picture you can see the young Trailblazers explaining all about the vehicle and the exhibition to their own p eer group. Once again the team were joined by several Rotarians from 1270 to help with stand management - in fact Market Rasen are to be congratulated for their support, with several members coming on each day. There is no doubt that having the young Trail Blazers on the stand went some of the way to changing the perceptions of Rotary to some of the visitors to stand. They were also very informative to all those 1270 Rotarians who visited the stand. Several learnt a lot more about the Hull Freedom Trail just by listening to what they had to say. |

Day 1 at The Lincolnshire Show 2007 |
Wednesday, 20 June 2007 |
The First Day at the Lincolnshire Show was very successful with visitors being drawn to the stand by the Hull Freedom Trail vehicle.
International projects were the theme of this year's stand with Shelter Box, Aquabox, Freeplay Radio, Lifestraw and the Wheelchair Foundation displays. The first picture shows visitors hearing about the Hull Freedom Trail from two of the young Trailblazers - Ian and Bekka w hilst Bas is adjusting his stand and fellow rotarians from Grimsby Havelok are enjoying fellowship. There is no doubt that hospitality area was a well received addition to the stand this year providing a resting point for fellow Rotarians from Stowmarket and as far south as District 1110, with many coming from our neighbouring District 1070 including their ADG and of course our own District - 1270. Fairtrade tea and coffee had been donated so all donations received were for the Bill Huntley Memorial Fund. In between talking to visitors about the Hull Freedom Trail, the young Trailblazers learnt about Rotary International and its projects. In the second picture, Rob from Rotaract is explaining about Freeplay Radio - it is hoped to provide one radio for each vehicle. |
