Rotary Club of Howden brave yet more rain!
Written by Rotary Club of Howden
Sunday, 15 July 2007

HowdenRotarians from the Rotary Club of Howden braved almost a full day of constant rain at the Howden Show on Sunday 15 July.  They were on duty collecting entrance fees at the South Gate.

The annual Agricultural Show had returned to The Ashes for the first time for the past few years under new a new Committee - one of Howden's newest members Russ, is one of them.

Despite the wet weather the show was well attended by both visitors and exhibitors.

As the Rotary Club of Howden had been one of the first to have a presentation on the Hull Freedom Trail, they were also the first to request the vehicle at the Show when the District had successfully raised the sponsorship funds.

It had pride of place at the South Gate, accompanied by new Rotary Club of Howden signage and Rotary wheels.  Once again it attracted the attention of the local press proving that Rotary District 1270's sponsorship of this humanitarian project is certainly raising the image and profile of Rotary in District 1270.

Humber Bridge Half Marathon 2007
Written by John Cumming
Tuesday, 17 July 2007

MarathonIt rained during the setting up, it rained just as the runners were finishing and it chucked it down during the tidying up! Despite that, the event was, once again, a great success. Started by Peter Levy and Paul Hudson (with their eyes closed) 1786 runners completed the full course and 409 were logged as finishers in the Fun Run. Darren Bilton retained his grip on this event with a record breaking run of just over 67 minutes with the runner up, Pulmani Bangani of Salford Harriers, two and a half minutes behind him! First lady home was Nicola Clay of Stilton Striders, one of the County of Leicestershire and Rutland team.

The event was graced by the presence of the Lord Mayor of Kingston-upon-Hull, Councillor Brenda Petch who presented some of the prizes being assisted by her consort Brian Petch, himself a former Lord Mayor.

BBC Radio Humberside presented the morning programme from the site and runners and their supporters were entertained by music provided by the Salvation Army (thank you Jonathan) and Hymers band. The additional food and drink stalls and the opening of MrsB’s cafe and snack bar proved popular as did the other stalls of Mizuno and Simply Running.

Wednesday, 11 July 2007

Market RasenThe sun was in the sky on Sunday 8 July when members of the Rotary Club of Market Rasen descended on hosts, Tim and Liz Day for the annual barbecue but heavy rain was on its way just as the last guests arrived.

Everyone rose to the challenge and quickly the whole event was moved from the immaculate gardens to an equally immaculate andrain conveniently empty shed.

The event was organised by the Club's International Committee to raise funds for the Hull Freedom Trail Vehicle which is being sponsored by District 1270.
