The Colombian GSE team visit to District 1270 brought them to Hull on Thursday 1st May. Among the many visits they took whilst staying with their hosts from the Rotary Clubs of Hull, Humberside and Hull Kingston was a morning at The Deep.
The team along with their hosts arrived at 10.30am for an hour and half amongst the aquaria and interactives that tell the story of the oceans. The team leader Alonso said that he enjoyed it more than Seaworld. During their visit they were fortunate enough to see divers in the North Sea tank feeding the Bullhuss by hand and cleaning the tanks. Their visit also coincided with a showing of the 4-d shark show which they very much enjoyed. They particularly had fun on the interactive mat in the Discovery Corner, near the main lagoon tank where as you can see from the picture they joined a party of local school children in jumping on the mat to see how the fish swam away. |

New Computers for Flood Damaged School |

Children at the St Andrews Primary School at Kirk Ella are finally back on line after all their computers were destroyed in last year's floods. The computer suite at the school was under several inches of water. Now, it has been fitted out with 21 new computers thanks in part to £7,000 donated by the Rotary Club of Humberside. When the Rotary Club learned of the damage, Club president John Netherwood put in a bid for cash from the National Rotary Flood Relieft Appeal - and was delighted when the money came through. Mr Netherwood says it's the first of 18 cash awards which the Club will make with money from the Fund. Others will be handed out over in the next few weeks to schools, churches and community groups. |

Ganton Special School was flooded to a depth of 3 feet in June 2007. The school was closed for refurbishment and repairs and the pupils and staff did not return until March 2008. During this time 130 students aged from 3 to 19 years, plus staff, had to share accommodation at 3 other schools.
The £21,000 cheque presented today is the result of funds raised through Rotary from members, friends and supporters throughout the British Isles and overseas. The "sponsoring club" for this particular project is The Rotary Club of Holderness and is typical of similar projects undertaken jointly and individually by Rotary Clubs within Hull and throughout District 1270 which covers an area North and South of the River Humber and other parts of Yorkshire. |
