Since 2000 District 1270 have raised funds to send 397 Shelterboxes to overseas disasters.  The total value of this donation is £194,530.  These figures do not include the money and boxes raised the local Inner Wheel clubs or private donations.

 

 
 
Hull Freedom Trail Countdown - 4 days to go

ShelterboxSunday 21 October - final checking of the Shelterbox kit to see what other essentials are required for the journey and how much space there is left in the boxes.

One is packed with tents and sleeping kit whilst the second one has all Freeplay Radiosthe essential cooking equipment.

But because we are Rotarians there is far more than the essential needs of the team being taken to Freetown.

 

6 Freeplay Radios have been donated - one will travel in each vehicle including the Support Vehicle.  The photo shows them being labelled with "Donated by District 1270, England" on both the radio and the boxes.  They will be distributed to the other vehicles as they start packing.

Lifestraws

 

120 lifestraws are also going in the vehicles.   One will be issued to each of the trailblazers with the remaining lifestraws to be donated with the vehicles.

Hull Freedom Trail at Huttons Medical

PresentersOn Friday 19th October, the Hull Freedom Trail paramedic, Alison Olner asked for the Rotary vehicle to attend Huttons Medical 180th Anniversary celebrations.

Huttons Medical have provided all the medical supplies that are being taken on the Hull Freedom Trail.  They are a specialist medical supply company for the Shipping and Offshore Industry.

Members of the Hull Freedom Trail were asked to give a presentation to the company.  Andy Paxton, who is responsible for the Young IsobelTrailblazers gave an overview of the project.  Alison thanked everyone for their support explaining how important the supplies were to the trailblazers whilst Isobel gave an excellent on-line presentation on how follow the trailblazers journey on the website.  www.hullfreedomtrail.com/blog/

During a conversation with one of the employees about why they got involved with the Hull Freedom Trail, one of the Rotary team were advised that the MD had first heard of the project when it was promoted at a Rotary dinner he had attended!!

Hull Freedom Trail Countdown - 6 days to go

The TeamCountdown has begun for the Hull Freedom Trail team - drivers, supporters and families are now preparing for the send-off.

The Comms team decided that a send-off meal at Harry Kar's in Brigg was an essential part of team bonding.   Rotary Drivers - Bas, Isobel and Chrissy were joined by the home support team - Malcolm and Freya, together with partners - Sheila, Jan, Graham and Steve.  Steve

As one of District 1270's newest Rotarians, Steve Tong, who is driving the support vehicle, was also invited to join the Rotary team meal.  There will more said about Steve in the coming months as he will not be returning to the UK until the new year as he will be visiting other African projects on his way home.  Steve's big vehicle is not going to be left in Sierra Leone as he wishes to do more charity work with it.
