Jason HippisleyRotary Clubs across the region have pooled their resources into a pot which is paying for Rasen Mail editor Jason Hippisley to learn more about the media profession by travelling to the Philippines.

Jason and three others are the beneficiaries this year of a programme which is open to all young professionals aged 25 to 40 to boost their understanding of their own line of work and other aspects of life through a global link with the Rotary family around the world.

The Group Study Exchange project is closed to Rotarians and their families, but is an extension of the Rotary ethos of putting service before self and supporting the development of personal, business and community life.

Market Rasen and Brigg Rotary clubs are part of Rotary District 1270, which includes 49 clubs stretching across to Sheffield and Barnsley, up to Beverley and sweeping around Skegness and Lincoln. Co-operatively the district clubs put money into the Rotary's own charity Rotary Foundation and every year each district has the chance to select up to four 'outstanding non-Rotarian business and professional people' to be funded on a four week voyage of discovery.

The benefits of GSE extend well beyond those who go!!
Written by Sarah's Grandmother
Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Sarah reading her Grandmother's thoughtsOn Monday 12 January, GSE Team Leader Stuart Leyland and team member, Sarah Hatfield visited the Rotary Club of Holderness to give a presentation on the GSE (Group Study Exchange) experience.  After Stuart's introduction, Sarah began her presentation on her experiences in Colombia by reading what her grandmother had to say about Sarah's participation in the GSE programme.

"I have been asked to write a few words on my thoughts whilst my granddaughter Sarah as in Colombia.  I don't feel that I shall be able to find the words that live up to such an experience of feeling myself alongside her from day 1!Sarah and her Nan

The feelings which I first had about the visit to Colombia, was one of horror and disbelief that they would be going into a country known to be troubled by terrorism, and it was some time before I was able to accept that she would actually go.

What a joy it turned out to be, although perhaps those taking part would not agree with me, as there would be times when it was not much joy for them, after all they were not there for a holiday, and it must have had many worrying times.  Not knowing much of the language wouldn't help!  Having to meet people who were living in terrible circumstances must have been distressing.

ConcertThe second of the two annual Lincolnshire Youth Concerts organised by The Rotary Club of Lincoln has raised more money for both Lincolnshire youth music and Rotary Charities.

The Autumn Gala Concert involved the Lincoln Youth Concert Band and the Lincoln Youth Orchestra and was held at the Priory City of Lincoln Academy.  A full house was entertained to a rich variety of skilfully and enthusiastically music played by young people from schools all over Lincolnshire.

Earlier in the year The Summer Youth Concert, which is also sponsored by the Lincolnshire Cooperative Ltd, performed at Lincoln University.  The total raised by both concerts was over £3,000.00.  This total will be divided between the orchestras and Rotary charities.
