The BBC are running a homelessness campaign in November. The BBC No Home season looks to build on the legacy of "Cathy Come Home" and the 40th anniversary of Shelter. It aims to update the public's view of homelessness in 21st Century Britain - challenging myths and stereotypes - and will signpost the public to creative and interesting volunteering opportunities that will help homeless people. |

Rt Tom Henderson, ShelterBox Founder is urging Rotarians to support the latest ShelterBox initiative. Information packs have been sent to primary schools throughout the UK to become involved in the "One in a Million" Campaign.
This initiative provides all Rotary Clubs with a superb opportunity to "connect" with their local primary schools. The Trust will be writing to all International Chairs to encourage them to engage with their local schools thereby raising awareness of the ShelterBox project and of course, our Rotary work. For more information visit www.shelterbox.org In recognition of the size and scale of this project, ShelterBox have set up a small inhouse team dedicated to dealing with all the enquiries with a separate email address:

ROTARY CLUB OF STAINBOROUGH take to The Trans-Pennine Trail The Rotary Club of Stainborough is organising this charity event to raise funds for Shelter Boxes, which can be sent out by Rotary at very short notice in response to disasters that occur anywhere in the world (eg the Kashmir earthquake last year). One Shelter Box, containing a large tent, sleeping bags and water purifiers, enables ten people to survive extreme conditions for up to six months. We’re want as many people as possible to either take part in the cycle ride or to sponsor one of the riders, and we would be delighted if you could encourage involvement to support a good cause that is being organised locally to support people anywhere in the world who suddenly find they need our help. The event is open to all ages, but it is particularly suitable as a means for young people and young adults to get involved in a charitable cause and have fun at the same time. |
