60's revisited in deepest East Yorkshire
Sunday, 15 April 2007

HippieIt was just as if the tardis had landed in deepest East Yorkshire one Saturday in April when Rotarians and their partners met for dinner.

The 1960's theme produced some stunning attire from mini-skirts, boots and vidal sasson hairstyles to flower power hippies and a large number of men in large very dark sunglasses!  Music from the Beatles and the Beachboys HE & FCgreeted guests whilst the host served Babycham in vintage glasses to the ladies.

Dinner commenced with Prawn Cocktail, followed by Coq au Vin and Blackforest Gateau and finished with cheese and biscuits all cooked and served by the President's and Secretary's wives.

The evening concluded with a 60's quiz, which proved to be a source of pleasant memories for some and something akin to Brain of Britain to those who were not born or were far too young to remember anything.

All guests paid the full going rate for the dining out with MHentertainment which was a tremendous success - all proceeds raised going to the Presidents Charity, Cancer Research.

Do you recognise any of the guests?

First Meeting of Hull Rotaract Club
Written by Robin Mason (DAG, North Group)
Sunday, 11 March 2007
hullIt is with great pleasure that we report on the founding of the above Club based at the University of Hull and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hull through President David Westwood.

The inaugural meeting has taken place and a second meeting was held on Friday 9th March when 10 prospective members were present along with the District Rotaract President, Rob Davidson; the Rotary District Chairman Martin Robinson, and the Rotary ADG for the North Group, Robin Mason.

The idea of this club has come from a Student at Hull University who was a Rotaractor in her home country of Guyana.  She has been elected President of the new club and othr officers have been elected.

The Club is going to meet the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at 6.30pm at the Pearson Park Hotel, Hull and they are already discussing what projects they can get involved in both locally and internationally.

It is excellent news to hear of a new Club and we wish them well in all they do.

RI Message re: Hull Freedom Trail
Tuesday, 06 March 2007

childDear Governor Sperr,

On behalf of Rotary International President Bill Boyd and President-elect Wilf Wilkinson, thank you for your recent message regarding District 1270’s Hull Freedom Trail project. As one of the RI staff liaisons for Rotary’s Community Service programs, it is a pleasure to respond on the presidents’ behalf.

As you know, Rotary was founded on the principle of promoting international understanding, goodwill, and peace through humanitarian service. We appreciate District 1270’s efforts to support these ideals by raising awareness about human trafficking and slavery through the Hull Freedom Trail project.

The abolition of human trafficking and slavery is an important cause that resonates deeply in the vehiclehumanitarian service of Rotarians around the world. Every year Rotary clubs and districts carryout thousands of projects to promote literacy, alleviate hunger, improve public health, provide safe drinking water, and eliminate poverty. While Rotary as a whole remains committed to the eradication of polio, these individual projects contribute greatly to global development efforts and help prevent human trafficking and slavery.

We wish you and District 1270 the best as you embark on your journey along the Hull Freedom Trail and hope your efforts to raise awareness and stop human trafficking and slavery are successful.

David Plater, Program Coordinator ,Service Support & Awards Department, Rotary International
