£11250 for Tweendykes Special Needs School
Saturday, 05 August 2006

John Barnes 2005-2006 President of Holderness John Barnes identified Tweendykes Special Needs School, Sutton Road, Sutton in Hull as his preferred beneficiary.  The school has 83 physically and/or mentally handicapped students, 16 of them in wheelchairs, ranging in age from 4 to 16 years.  Holderness has been involved with the school, through Kids Out for some 14 years.

During the last Rotary year the club supported a wide range of events organised by all the Committees enable each to make a considerable contribution.  Tweendykes Hot Road, with the Dave Challis Band, held on 20th May, was a particularly successful evening.  The President’s wife, Jan, volunteered to sell her own special brand of Sherried Onions which proved very popular, making another valued donation.

Wortley Rally rolls on to another success

Steam Roller

On 2nd July 2006, Wortley Rotary Club held its 10th Annual Vintage Vehicle Rally

at Wortley Hall, near Sheffield.  Glorious weather abounded again, with only a hint of a shower early morning but not enough to wet the ground; unlike Sheffield, apparently, (only half a dozen miles away) where there was a torrential downpour for nearly 2 hours.  Over 150 cars, commercials, military vehicles and motorcycles were on display.  To complement the World War II theme, there was a fantastic 20 minute aerial display by 2 Tiger Moths which flew in from Elvington near York and refuelled at Netherthorpe near Chesterfield before flying home.  Other events included a birds of prey display, makeup displays and makeovers courtesy of Clarins (Boots Meadowhall), sidestalls, craft stalls and children’s entertainment.
