Robin Mason, ADG for the north group of clubs is pleased to annouce that the 8 Clubs in the Hull area, including Beverley, Hornsea and South Cave & Wolds have all agree to contribute to the purchase of a Playpump for use in South Africa. Robin met earlier this week with District Grants Chairman, Geoff Peterson and he is contacting a Club in South Africa so that Matching Grant funding can be arranged. Following the success of the Centenary Dinner when these same Clubs came together, it is showing true Rotary spirit of Clubs working together to complete a very worthwhile project.2006-11-30 |

Rotary supports the Campaign to Abolish Slavery |
|
Friday, 10 November 2006 |
The Wilberforce 2007 Committee enthusiastically adopted the And Albert/Rotary Big Phone Drop-In and Kayesa Youth Centre Project as Wilberforce 2007 events. Two Rotary Clubs in District 1270 have risen to the challenge to help "Stop the Trafficking" and they are asking all Rotarians to support them. Why? Because in 2007 some 200 years after the abolition of slavery there are more people in slavery than there were 200 years ago! RC of Holderness together with the local Rotary Club and the Salvation Army is supporting the Kayesa Youth Centre project. The centre, located on the Malawi/Zambia border will provide temporary accommodation, counselling, care and protective services to help restore the hope of the victims of child trafficking in Malawi. The And Albert/Rotary Big Phone Drop is being led by RC of Hull. Based in East Yorkshire the And Albert Foundation is a registered charity which trains people and leaders in a group of villages along "The Old Slave Routes" in rural Africa from Mali, Burkina Fason, Niger and down to the Atlantic coast slave forts. |
